Our Prophet: President Russell M. Nelson

President Russell M. Nelson is the current prophet and leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on September 9, 1924. President Nelson has been a faithful member of the church his entire life and has dedicated his life to serving others.

Early Life and Education

President Nelson was born to a family of faithful members of the church. His parents taught him the importance of faith, hard work, and dedication to service. As a young man, he served as a missionary for the church in various parts of the world, including France and the United States.

After completing his mission, President Nelson returned to Utah to attend the University of Utah, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1947. He later went on to attend medical school at the University of Utah, where he received his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1951.

Career and Service

After completing medical school, President Nelson served in the United States Army Medical Corps during the Korean War. He later returned to Utah to begin his medical practice, where he became a well-respected and highly skilled heart surgeon.

Throughout his medical career, President Nelson always made time to serve others. He served as the president of the Society for Vascular Surgery, as well as the president of the Utah State Medical Association.

In addition to his medical practice, President Nelson also dedicated a significant portion of his time to serving in the church. He served as the president of the church’s Salt Lake City Temple, as well as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, one of the highest governing bodies of the church.

Prophet and Leader

In January 2018, following the death of former church President Thomas S. Monson, President Nelson was called to serve as the 17th prophet and leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Since becoming prophet, President Nelson has worked tirelessly to inspire and uplift members of the church around the world. He has traveled to numerous countries to meet with members and deliver messages of hope and encouragement.

President Nelson has also made several significant changes to the church’s organizational structure and practices.
